For a slashing that happened at a Montana gambling establishment earlier this month, a man was taken into custody on Thursday.
Trevor Leonard Johnson, the suspect, was charged with assault with a weapon for the attack that happened outside of Ike and Susan's Lounge & Casino in Great Falls on March 18.
Johnson and the unidentified victim—who was later identified as one of his friends—were having a lengthy conversation before the event started. The victim departed the property and entered a parked car in the lot after the casino bar closed. According to authorities, the victim got out of the car for an unspecified reason and punched Johnson in the head.
Johnson replied by pulling a black switchblade out of a pocket. He stabbed the victim in the arm and stomach at least twice with the knife.
Johnson first left the site of the crime in flight. When he came back a little while later, someone heard him say, "It was me." A local news website, MontanaRightNow.com, stated, "I did it."
Following the stabbing, Johnson was taken into custody by the police and brought to the Great Falls Police Department (GFPD).
Following the hearing of Johnson's account, an officer from the GFPD viewed a video of the altercation that had been recorded by the casino's security cameras.
The victim had injuries
The victim was sent urgently to a nearby hospital. MontanaRightNow.com states that medical professionals attended to his numerous wounds and fixed internal organs that were bulging out of his tummy. Authorities added that the man was also treated by hospital doctors for a huge cut on his stomach and a knife wound on his arm.
The victim's condition was not up to date according to the police. It's unclear if the hospital has allowed him to go.
Judge Made a Probable Cause Decision
Johnson was arrested and then appeared in Cascade County court, where the judge decided there was probable reason to believe Johnson committed the crime and continued the case.
The judge imposed a $10,000 bond on Johnson and directed him to stay 1,500 feet away from the victim.
Johnson has not yet pleaded guilty to the accusation.
Johnson might spend up to 20 years in prison if found guilty. Additionally, he can receive a $50K fine.
