Atlantic City Rally Rallies On, July Marks Third Month of In-Person Revenue Growth

July was the third consecutive month that Atlantic City's in-person gross gaming revenue (GGR) increased year over year.  It coincides with difficulties in other significant markets, such as Las Vegas.

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement reported on Friday that the nine casinos in Atlantic City saw a 4.3% increase in physical casino wins last month as compared to July 2024.  Slot machine revenue increased nearly 3% to $212.8 million, while table game revenue increased 10% to $71.3 million.

The nine physical gaming floors' aggregate GGR of $284.1 million was an improvement of $11.8 million over July 2024.

"Atlantic City’s solid summer season continued in July,” James Plousis, chair of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, told Casino.org. “Over the past four years, Atlantic City’s casino hotels have invested more than $1.1 billion in improving their properties to provide a world-class experience for visitors. Those investments have helped Atlantic City reinvent itself as a destination, with a robust diversity of gaming, leisure, dining, and entertainment options that cater to every taste.”

The retail casino win is 2.2% higher after seven months.  Since in-person customers spend money on entertainment, lodging, and food and drink, the nine casinos have earned over $1.66 billion in revenue, which they value more than winnings from online slots and table games.  Additionally, in-person gaming isn't shared with outside internet operators.

The Return of AC

In July, in-person casino income surpassed iGaming, while retail GGR improvements continued for the third consecutive month.  That was the case even though iGaming revenue jumped 27% from the previous year to a record monthly high of $247.3 million.

The total revenue from gaming, including the $74.7 million won from sports betting, was $606.2 million.  Only twice in New Jersey's history has monthly GGR topped $600 million, and the July statewide GGR figure was 11% greater than it was a year earlier.

“Atlantic City’s year-to-date casino win strengthened, marking the highest result at this point of the year since 2013. New Jersey’s year-to-date total gaming revenue approached $4 billion in July, an impressive figure achieved faster compared to every other year,” Plousis explained.

Retail and mobile sportsbooks, iGaming platforms, and the nine casinos in Atlantic City generated $3,923,859,532 in gaming income through July.  That represents an 8.8% increase, or $317.3 million, over 2024.

GGR Enhancements Throughout the City

The fact that the in-person improvements were extensive and not only concentrated in the market leaders, Borgata, Hard Rock, and Ocean, is a key highlight of the July GGR report.

An in-person casino victory at the long-stricken Bally's posted an uncommon gain of 6% to $14.1 million.  The win at Harrah's increased by a comparable amount to $20.4 million.  Resorts' GGR increased by 8.5% to $16.8 million over the previous year.

With $79.9 million in revenue from its physical casinos, up 5%, Borgata continued to hold its commanding position.  Hard Rock came in second, up less than 1% at $55.1 million.  Strong house table game showings drove Ocean's 18% rise to third place with $43.1 million.

In-person GGR declined at just two casinos in Atlantic City.  Tropicana's gain dropped 1% to $22.9 million, while Caesars reported a 6% drop to $18.8 million.
